Right now there are so many gins available in the market, that sometimes we have no clue about which one is good and which one is not!
In the 10th of June I was invited by Agência Criativa to a "Gin taste" of Gin Sul and I had the excellent opportunity to get to know it's creator and to listen in person how everything did start and how this delicious gin is produced.
This is the only gin distilled in Hamburg and produced with a lot of passion in Altonaer Spirituosen Manufaktur. However, its origins are almost 3,000 km far away, they are at Vincentian cost, in the southeast of Portugal.
Actualmente, existem diversas marcas de gin no Mercado e por vezes, não fazemos ideia de quais são de qualidade e quais não são!
No dia 10 de Junho fui convidada pela Agência Criativa para uma prova do Gin Sul e tive a excelente oportunidade de conhecer o seu criador e ouvir, pessoalmente, como tudo começou e de descobrir como é que este delicioso gin é produzido.
Este gin é o único gin destilado em Hamburgo e produzido com imenso amor na Altonaer Spirituosen Manufaktur. No entanto, as suas origens encontram-se a quase 3,000 km de distância, na costa Vicentina, no sudeste de Portugal.

Stephan Garbe, Gin Sul’s creator fell in love with Odeceixe, a small Portuguese town
nearby Sagres and he always returned there every time he could. As he
couldn’t get over the nostalgia for this place, his family bought a house
there. In this house there is a lemon tree that took part in the begging of the
Gin Sul. A big part of the gin’s ingredients are picked in this little
town, for instance Esteva.
Stephan couldn’t be
more grateful for being working in what he always dreamed of. He enjoys it so
much that for him, it doesn’t seem like a “work”.
Stephan Garbe, o criador do Gin Sul rendeu-se aos encantos de Odeceixe,
uma pequena cidade nos arredores de Sagres, onde sempre regressou assim
que lhe era possÃvel. As saudades por Odeceixe eram tantas, que Stephan
e a sua famÃlia decidiram comprar uma casa na cidade. E nessa casa, um velho
limoeiro ditou o começo da história e de um novo capÃtulo da vida de Garbe.
Grande parte dos ingredientes do Gin Sul são colhidos em Odeceixe,
por exemplo a Esteva.
Stephan não podia estar mais grato por estar a trabalhar no que sempre
sonhou em fazer. Ama tanto o que faz, que nem o intitula por “trabalho”.
