LUXURY HOURS: A VISIT TO BOUTIQUE DOS RELÓGIOS PLUS ART

How to surprise someone who already has everything? And how to keep them interested and loyal to your store? These questions seems the introduction of one of my classes of the MSc Management with Specialization in Marketing, but instead are the introduction to a real case where most of the approaches I am studying are applied.

Como surpreender alguém que já tem tudo? Como manter o interesse e lealdade dos mesmos à nossa loja? Estas questões parecem ser uma introdução às minhas aulas do mestrado de Gestão com especialização em Marketing, no entanto são a a introdução a um caso real, onde a maioria das abordagens que me encontro a estudar são aplicadas.

The Boutique dos Relógios is an empire created in 1997 which offers many services and physical spaces completely focused on the customer. Who gets in is welcomed in a space that quickly becomes their own kingdom, where the entire store and staff are totally at their service. During the last summer I could make an exclusive visit to a wonderful world called Boutique dos Relógios Plus Art and a love story started: my passion for luxury goods and Haute Horlogerie.

A Boutique dos Relógios é um império criado em 1997, oferecendo diversos serviços e espaços físicos totalmente focados no cliente. Cada qual que entra é acolhido num espaço que rapidamente se torna no seu reino, onde toda a loja e colaboradores estão à sua disposição. No verão passado tive a oportunidade de fazer uma visita exclusiva a um mundo maravilhoso chamado Boutique dos Relógios Plus Art, onde toda uma história de amor começou: a minha paixão pelos bens de luxo e pela alta relojoaria.

After crossing the “Time Mobile” by Joana de Vasconcelos and going through the two automatic doors, there is a banquet awaiting: natural juices, ‘pastéis de Belém’, the best wines and so many other deliciousness that arrive every day at the store, not to mention the members of the staff who always hold their best smile. The music is in a certain volume and several rooms are expecting our presence according to the privacy requested. Every detail in the store was exhaustively calculated and concentrated in the interpretation of its details and in the clients.

Assim que se cruza o “Mobile do Tempo” de Joana Vasconcelos e se passam as duas portas automáticas, aguarda-nos um banquete: sumos naturais, patéis de belém que chegam todos os dias à loja, os melhores vinhos e muitas outras delícias, para não mencionar os funcionários que nos recebem com um enorme sorriso na cara. A música está num determinado volume e esperam-nos diversas salas, mediante a privacidade que por nós é exigida. Esta é uma loja em que cada pormenor foi minuciosamente pensado na sua interpretação e nos clientes.

The customers arrive at Boutique from all over the world, especially because this store is located in a touristic and a must-visit point of Lisbon – Avenida da Liberdade. As a consequence, the clients are mostly foreign, not only because they are visiting the city, but also because this is their favourite store to purchase luxury goods. With few exceptions, many are received in their first language (something that turns their shopping experience even more special): Mandarin, Russian, German, etc.

Os clientes chegam à Boutique de todo o mundo, a esta loja precisamente por esta se encontrar num ponto turístico, a Avenida da Liberdade, um dos must-visit spots de Lisboa. Consequentemente, os clientes são maioritariamente estrageiros. Não apenas por Lisboa se ter tornado num marco de turismo europeu muito forte e atrativo, como também por ser a Boutique dos Relógios o local preferido dos clientes para comprarem bens de luxo. Com poucas exceções, muitos são calorosamente recebidos na sua língua mãe, seja a língua mandarim, russo ou alemão.

At this store there are many art exhibitions and simultaneously they make a touristic and cultural tour of the city and its surroundings. The art pieces are an imperative element at the Boutique, for that reason this space has a strong interactive dimension: there is always a new exhibition, which after being promoted attacks clients that go on purpose to the store to appreciate it.

Nesta loja, muitos marcos de arte são divulgados, acabando por sua vez fazer um roteiro turístico e cultural da cidade e das suas redondezas. As obras de arte são um elemento indispensável na Boutique. Este espaço tem uma dimensão bastante interativa: sempre que há uma exposição nova, após divulgada, esta atrai clientes que vão até à Boutique de propósito para a apreciar.

The products at the store include leatherwork, fragrances, cellphones, accessories and for the first time sunglasses from Dita, Tom Browne and Shamballa. It also counts with very distinctive men’s accessories! It is not only about watches, due to Boutique’s wide offer, every client that steps in the store ends up falling in love with some product. Every item has its own story and touches us in special and individual ways.

Os produtos à venda na loja variam muito e vão desde a marroquinaria, a perfumes, telemóveis, acessórios, e óculos pela primeira vez das marcas a Dita, Tom Browne e Shamballa; Assim como joalharia de homem muito singular e marcante! Não se trata apenas de relógios, na Boutique encontra-se um leque variadíssimo de ofertas que qualquer cliente que entra irá encontrar algo por que se vai apaixonar. Cada peça tem uma história diferente e toca-nos de formas distintas.

IT'S BEACH TIME

To celebrate the end of the last year of our undergraduate degree in Economics, me and my great friend Ayrton, broke out the city's routine and went to the beach.
Lately the weather has been amazing in Lisbon. Despite raining occasionally, it has been very hot and up to +- 23ºC. For instance, when we went to the beach it was 29ºC.

The best part of living at a city like Lisbon, is that you always have several options for how to spend your time. Even though, you don't have a car, you can easily be somewhere you wish due to the good transportation facilities. Adding that the city's dimension also helps!

I am not really a 'beach-person', but I love swimming and being in contact with the ocean. The part I like the least is being frying in the sun! So during summer, I always have a hard time, because my friends' favourite hobby (while we are at the beach) is to sunbath for hours and hours! Instead, I take baths of sunscreen and water.
I am a little health-freak. I do worry very much about health, specially food, skin and haircare. As a result, the summer seems to be the season where I have to be even more cautious. My hair gets dry without difficulty and my skin becomes very fragile.

So this day I took some nice shoots with my new acquisition from Sahoco. I fell in love with this shorts since I saw the SS16 press release.

This pattern reflects my African roots and if you observe the shorts carefully it almost seems to have a story going on. The African sellers are doing their ordinary activities while they are happily dancing and singing.

The ocean roar is music to the soul. 🎼

ANABELA BALDAQUE STORE OPENING 9/04/2015

This month, I had the honour of getting to know the Portuguese designer Anabela Baldaque. It happened at the Opening of her store on the 9^th of April.

Due to the stylist several years of career, this is the first time she opens her own store in Lisbon. Her store is situated in Principe Real, where she shares and counts with the partnership of Paulo Cassio, a fashion and interior design expert.

Anabela and Paulo where since the beginning of the event greeting and chatting with their guests that were present for welcoming the creators and their creations, at the new store.

Este mês tive a honra de conhecer a estilista portuguesa, Anabela Baldaque, na abertura da sua loja, no dia 9 de Abril.

Apesar dos seus vários anos de carreira, esta é a primeira vez que a estilista abre a sua própria loja, em Lisboa, no Príncipe Real. Este é o espaço que partilha e onde conta com a parceria de Paulo Cassio, um especialista em moda e design de interiores.

A Anabela e o Paulo estiveram desde o início do evento a receber e conversar com os seus convidados, que compareceram ao evento para dar as boas vindas aos criadores e às suas criações.

Before going to the event, I already was a huge admirer of Anabela. Her story and passion for fashion and styling started when she was just a child. She used to create her dolls clothes and later she started doing it with her own attire.

Her fashion education journey started at Gudi School, Porto and extended to Paris American Academy in France. At her 20’s she was already working for stylists like Emilio Pucci, in Italy. But her first design being sold had to wait until London, while she was visiting a store, the retailer liked the jacked Anabela was wearing (designed by her) and wanted to buy it immediately.

Tornei-me uma admiradora da Anabela, pouco antes de ir ao evento, guiada pela curiosidade que o seu nome me tinha suscitado. A sua história e paixão pela moda e pelo estilismo começaram quando ela era apenas uma criança. Ela mesma era a estilista das suas bonecas, para as quais desenhava e criava roupa e mais tarde, passou a fazer o mesmo com o seu guarda-roupa.

A sua educação e influências passaram pela Escola Gudi, no Porto; Paris American Academy, em França e pouco demorou para que começasse a trabalhar para artistas como Emilio Pucci, em Italia. No entanto, o seu primeiro modelo a ser vendido teve que esperar até Londres, onde, enquanto visitava uma loja, foi interpelada pela dona da mesma, que gostou do casaco que a Anabela levava vestido e quis comprá-lo de imediato.

Later on, she returned to Portugal and continued her successful path not only nationally but also abroad. Today she still is a constant and important presence at national events such as Portugal Fashion and Moda Lisboa (Lisbon Fashion Week).

Mais tarde, Anabela regressou a Portugal, continuando a sua carreira bem-sucedida, não exclusivamente a nível nacional, como também internacional. Hoje, ela continua a ser uma presença contante e importante em eventos nacionais como o Portugal Fashion e o Moda Lisboa.

Aqui poderão encontrar os presentes mais originais e únicos, desde o livro sobre o lenço Hermés ou sobre os clássicos da Chanel, a acessórios para o lar, com designs exclusivos, selecionados por todo o mundo.

There were present several celebrities and public figures. On the left João Freitas Ferreira, author of the Gentleman's Journal and me, taking a selfie. On the middle me and Anabela Baldaque. I hope you like Anabela as much as I do. She isn't only a great artist she is also a very sweet person.

Estiveram presentes diversas celebridades e figuras públicas. À esquerda, o João Freitas Ferreira, autor do Gentleman's Journal, e eu, a tirar-mos uma selfie. No meio eu e a Anabela Baldaque. Espero que tenham gostando da história da Anabela tanto quanto eu, para além de uma artista fantástica é também uma pessoa muito querida.
